“But he calls me to celebrate the greatest glories
she who sits and reigns on the little Ren,
mother of arts and heroes, beautiful Felsina
she of Greek origin and already a warrior,
that the Sacred Tridentin Senate welcomed
and a king in chains submitted proudly.
Immense and mixed people of beasts,
none of you, with your phlegm and peace,
more than my pig was seen in so much honor.
Nor does he lie rude and ungrateful.
The illustrious Mortadella reserves for her:
she understands the value of it and is pleased with it.
Immortal pig! Even a proud beast
of having Tullius and Martial panegyrists, with Giuvenal,
a language so bitter to everyone.”
(Giuseppe Ferrari (Bistonio Tigrinto): The praises of the pig, Modena, 1761).
